King Khaled International Airport Departure Relief Project

Project Description

King Khaled International Airport consists of three terminal buildings; two of which are for international flights and the third is used domestically. The project’s scope is limited to the departure halls of the three terminals. As the number of departing passengers has increased significantly beyond the current design capacity of the terminals, increased security requirements took place and have led to the implementation of hold baggage screening before check-in. Consequently, congestion and long waiting time for passengers in the departure halls occurred. Therefore, it was decided to redesign/ rearrange all departure procedures areas to relieve the pressure of large numbers of passengers through three measures:

1) in line hold baggage screening (beyond check-in);

2) increase the capacity of check in counters;

3) increase the capacity of passport control as well as security screening.
