Project Description

Water Treatment Plant:

Construction Cost USD 500 million

USAID funded

Capacity increase: 200,000 to 600,000 m3/day.

Components:

  • Nile water intake: 2 No. 175 m, 2,400 mm dia. pipelines.
  • Raw water pumping station: 780,000 m3/day (11 m head), 6 No. vertical turbine pumps, 3 No. travelling screens.
  • 2 No. Underground storage reservoirs.
  • Water clarification and filtration facilities.
  • Filtered water pumping station, 1,200,000 m3/ day (60 m head), 8 No. vertical turbine pumps.
  • 5 km trunk transmission lines and associated appurtenances to handle the increase in water production.

Services Provided:

Study to determine:

  • Most suitable, efficient and cost effective process for treating the River Nile water.
  • Most suitable coagulant and coagulant aid dosage
  • Optimum surface loading, detection time, rise rate, velocity gradients and other design parameters associated with the treatment process.

Based on:

  • Data and laboratory tests.
  • Pilot plant investigations to confirm the most economical and effective process for the upgrade of Rod EI Farag south section treatment complex.
