UTW ROUND 9 Graduation Ceremony

On Monday, 11 September 2017, the graduation ceremony of the ninth round of the “University to Work” (UTW) Program was held at the InterContinental Cairo Citystars Hotel under the auspices of the Ministry of Housing, Utilities & Urban Development; Ministry of Environment; Ministry of Trade & Industry; and Ministry of Social Solidarity.

During the event, ECG Vice President and UTW Project Manager Dr. Nevine AbdelKhalek pointed out that UTW Round 9 had a total of 500 engineering students from 10 engineering disciplines. This included two Syrian engineers now possessing the technical and professional skills necessary for local and international labor markets.

During the ceremony, a new training program to be organized in cooperation with the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers was announced. UTW Round 9 top achievers and best teams were honored during the ceremony, along with a number of corporate sponsors, including TEA Computers, SIGMA, Scib Paints, Ideal Standard, Fagerhult Lighting Group, and Schneider Electric.

Supporting academic institutions included the Institution of Civil Engineers, Association of Enterprise Architects, and ASDA Sustainable Development Association. Others included the Rotary clubs, Egyptian Businessmen’s Association, and Business Professional Women (BPW) Emirates Club, alongside media organizations such as Al-Qarar Al-Masry and Globalstar.

On his part, Deputy Minister of Housing Ahmed Adel Darwish commended the efforts of UTW students in supporting the urban renewal of Al-Mawardi slum area in Cairo. He added that the Ministry of Housing aspires toward further cooperation with the UTW Program. Meanwhile, Ministry of Environment Representative Sherif Abu Talib lauded the efforts of Egyptian youth in relation to environmental conservation through the establishment of natural reserves. He also looked forward to mutual cooperation with the UTW Program.

It is worth noting that the UTW Program now has more than 4,000 engineering graduates since its inception back in 2010. All graduates have successfully joined the engineering design and construction industries inside Egypt and abroad.
