ECG as the AC engineer provided full technical support in Malabo International Airport. The EPC project is an extension for the existing terminal building; adding two arrival halls connected to the existing building to solve the problem of peak hours congestion and the crowded queuing areas of the arrival flights which are 7 flights a day approximately.
The project comprises design, construction and commissioning the 3,400 m2 building in six months. Every hall of the two arrival halls is composed of two levels; Ground floor and First floor. The Ground floor with an area of 1,140 m2 containing the passport control area (containing 8 passport control counters), the reclaim hall (comprising 2 reclaim belts)and the custom check counters (containing 2 custom counters), beside the related services including toilets offices and also an external commercial area. The First floor of an area estimated at 570 m2 containing the connection to the existing building and the new boarding bridge hocked directly to the aircraft leading passengers smoothly through arrival corridor and overlooking the ground floor below. Also at this level two VIP lounges are located with all related services including toilets, kitchen and storages. In addition to the aforementioned, the building also contains an elevator.
The design aimed to achieve the maximum flexibility of using the building, since the first floor can be used also for departure activities beside arrival functions. The external elevation design was based on respecting the existing building design with adding modern touch to emphasize the new function required with using huge structural glazing curtain walls with mega steel structure for roof..
