In 2007, ALX-CT, a newly founded company specialized in the fields of importing/exporting and handling of industrial chemicals, awarded ECG the engineering services contract entailing the design, detailed engineering, construction supervision and management, and commissioning of the Alexandria Chemicals Terminal (ALX-CT) project. The project provided for bulk chemical receiving, storage, and packaging of chemicals at the Dekheila Port, Alexandria. ALX-CT is currently the first-of-its-kind terminal in North Africa and is the third terminal of its type in the Middle East.

Key project components comprised 13 chemical storage tanks of capacities ranging from 850-2,000 cu m. At the harbor quay, 550 m away from the terminal, a chemical receiving station was set up to secure conveyance of industrial chemicals to the chemicals storage tanks via 3 extended piggable pipelines. Other terminal elements included a state-of-the-art truck loading station for bulk chemical land shipments; nitrogen generators for tank blanketing of all chemical storage tanks; a cutting-edge control unit adopting a programmable logic controller system; an administration building housing a control room and laboratory; along with all other service utilities such as fire alarm, firefighting, compressed air, and so forth. In planning for future extensions, developed design considerations effectively accommodated a double-fold increase in the current terminal capacity.

ALX-CT was designed to conform with the strictest measures of safety and environmental protection. Moreover, for the effective conclusion of this project, ECG secured rigorous compliance with the latest national and international codes/standards relevant to such industrial projects.
